So I read Polly’s comment about visiting her in Australia and that sent me to travelocity.com which came up with the following numbers:
Plane fare from US to Australia - $2500
Plane fare from Australia to New Zealand - $1000 (Can’t go to that side of the world without seeing the Shire!)
Hotel - unknown
Car rental - unknown
I’m thinking, though, as a rough guesstimate, that I’ll need about 10k to do a two-week trip over there. I have that much now, but of course it’s for buying a condo. Once the condo is purchased, though, I can start saving for an Australia extravaganza. I’m thinking Fall of 2009.
Lea will be coming, too, although she might not know it yet. 
A three-week trip would probably be more ideal, just so we’d have time to really putter around and see things, but since we’re talking two years away there’s time. It’s very exciting to think about going that far away! I’ve only ever been to Canada! I am not well-traveled. 
But that can be fixed!!!!!
