Getting ready

Let’s see. I’ve started to pack up pretty seriously. I’ve got my laptop in the backpack and I’ve been puttering around trying to make sure I get all of my little electronics bits - chargers and such. Clothes and all are mostly done, but I need to do toiletries. I’ve straightened up around the apartment and taken the trash out so that’s done, but I still need to change the sheets on the bed (it’s really nice having fresh sheets on the bed for when you come home). I’m pondering whether to run get my hair cut or not. I’d like to, but I’m not sure it’s absolutely necessary just yet. I meant to get a pedicure this week, too, but I don’t really need it so it’s ok that I didn’t get to it.

We made a run to the Post Office this morning to mail off a few more postcards. The mail exchange site is really kicking now. I’m considering bringing some of the postcards with me so I can keep up with new profiles as people register, but that might be being a little TOO anal. :D

Ooh, I forgot about this entry and ran off to do things and now I’m back!

We got a lovely card from polly in the mail. It’s got kitties on it! I think we’re going to have to put it in a little frame and hang it up because it’s so unusual and cool. Thank you, polly-pplz! We also got a pretty little Christmas card from SplitAngels! Yay! And we got… a bill! Whee! Ooh, mix CDs from one of the Alphalist people. I’ve gotten like six mix CDs in the past couple of weeks. I need to start ripping them to my iTunes.

Oh and Shan, we got a copy of User Friendly by that author you told us about, Spider Robinson. There were actually a lot of his books on paperbackswap.com, but I wasn’t sure which to get so I chose this one. We’ll have to get together so you can tell me what else to order.

I think for 2008 I’m going to keep a list of where I travel and why. I feel like I went a lot of places this year but I couldn’t even begin to tell you about all of them. I think 2008 is going to be a big travel year, too, between friends and work.

Ok, we’re all cleaned up, both suitcases are packed and closed (one for clothes, one for presents), the kitties have food, the kitty sitter is scheduled, the apartment is neatened up and looking nice and uncluttered, the bed has fresh sheets and is all made up for when we get back, our backpack is all setup with books and the laptop and such, the camera battery is charged, the iPod is charged, I have all the various cables for all the electronics, there’s bird food out on the balcony for the finches - I think we’re ready! We didn’t get our hair cut but that’s ok. We can do it when we get back.

We’re off. Posting will be intermittent while we’re gone, although because I can post easily from my BlackBerry there’ll still probably be something on a daily basis, just not lengthy. I’d like to manage a post for every day in December, but if we don’t it’s ok.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday of your choice!

Stayin’ up late

We have stayed up very late for us, but it’s so nice knowing that next week is Christmas and vacation and no school until January 6th. We worked on our mail exchange website and played our interstellar warfare game and petted kitties and started reading Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth which we can tell is going to be interesting and so it’s become the book to bring on vacation (it’s also very fat, which is a positive thing in our eyes). Now, though, it’s time to start winding down and head to bed.

Tomorrow we need to pick up around the apartment and maybe get our hair cut and finish packing for the trip and have dates with L/L and then go over to our sister’s house in the evening because we’re spending the night there. Our plane leaves pretty early on Sunday morning. Here’s hoping it doesn’t the flight doesn’t get canceled due to the plane being stuck in Boston like happened to my niece and nephew on Thursday. They were supposed to already be in Louisiana but their flight on Thursday got fux0red due to the snow storms in Boston. Lea, tell the weather to behave!
