Grrr Washington Gas

Such WANKERS. They’re making me pay a $165 deposit because of my credit record, when I’ve been paying them for the past 4.5 years without ever being late! Asshats.

In other news, I’ve gotten the Internet, landline, gas and electric setup to be transferred. I still need to call the cable company, and then that should do it for the utilities.

Lea found a wonderful litter box for puppies (of all things) that has a cutout on one side so it’s easy to step into. I just ordered one from petfooddirect.com (where I buy all their kitty food), and hopefully this will do the trick. It’s not as huge as the other one I was looking at, but it’s got the right shape. I went to Petsmart this afternoon and looked at the huge kitty litter box, but it had really high sides which means the boodle kitty won’t be able to get in. This whole search is because her hips aren’t so good anymore and she won’t hop into litter boxes.

I bought a bunch of boxes and packing materials from a storage place this afternoon. I need to bring them upstairs so I can start packing things. I remember that the last time I moved (in December 2003), I managed it by only packing for 20 minutes at a time.

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed, but it’s all good.

Getting very close

I got an email this morning confirming that the condo had passed the termite inspection, so things are definitely reaching the damn-near-done point.

Today, if things work out, I’m going to take this afternoon off from work. I want to go put in my notice for the apartment and get it confirmed (again) that it’s ok for me to pro-rate June. I want to go to the Petsmart and see if they have this wonderful litter box I found online. It’s truly GARGANTUAN at 34.7 x 19.8 x 10 inches, and I’m hoping it will solve my special kitty poop and pee troubles that I have. (Geriatric kitties are so fun!) Then it’s off to the U-Haul place to buy packing supplies - mostly book-sized boxes and bubblewrap and packing paper to start with. The closing is in just, what… OMG, just under two weeks! Ack.

Ok, so first I’ll do the books. I’ll have a box of books, CDs, and DVDs that are for my swapping sites. I’ll keep them separate since I don’t actually want them anymore but I keep them to send out when they get requested because I love my swapping sites. Then I’ll make a special box of my to-be-read stacks (which actually might end up being two boxes for all I know). Lea’s seen my enormous piles of books to read. :) And then comes the regular books on the shelves. I intend to be really ruthless, and get rid of what I absolutely don’t use or won’t read again. Of course all the Trollope, Dickens, Austen, Bronte and Wharton (among others) will stay, but there are quite a few fantasy ones that I can get rid of. I do think I can weed it out enough to free up a bookcase to give my sister, which will mean more room in the spare bedroom.

I’m going to try and Freecycle my somewhat-broken-but-repairable Ikea dresser, and the Ikea bed which is in fine condition but actually isn’t the right sort of bed for a futon mattress. If need be I’ll just put the mattress on the floor for a while until I can find the right platform bed.

I have to pack up all the delicate stuff too, most of which is in my antique glass-doored bookcase. And the glass doors themselves, eek. This is their last move for a very long time. After four or five states I hope they’ll continue their record of good luck and not break this time around.

Oh eek. There is so much to do! Lea and/or Delane - feel like coming down to visit over Memorial Day weekend? I’ll help with the ticket and ply you with expensive meals in between massive bouts of packing and angst. The offer is open! :D

I must wander off now and make copious detailed lists.
