Let’s see. Today I went to both Home Depot and Lowe’s to get keys made, but was partially unsuccessful in that neither one could make copies of my mail key for me. I’ll have to drive into Leesburg for that. While I was there, I checked out the carpet runners they had available but they were so so ugly that I didn’t buy anything. However, they were also so so cheap, so I might go head and choose the least ugly and buy them for now, to protect my floors, until I can get something that I actually like. I’m undecided about that, though.

I got my laptop working online through my BlackBerry, so that I won’t have to be without Internet access this weekend. Yes, I’m addicted.

I spent the rest of the day chatting with L/L and packing. The closet is mostly done, and the same for the linen closet. I have one last box of fragile things to pack, and the office stuff is mostly done. I haven’t touched the kitchen, but I suppose I’ll get that done tomorrow. I haven’t touched the bathroom either but that’s going to be a no-brainer anyway; I have hardly anything in there.

There are so many boxes in my apartment that I’m having trouble getting around. It’s crazed. The cats are all kinds of discombobulated and I have to admit that I am too. This really wreaks havoc with our sense of security, but I know it’ll be ok.

I stopped sorting things a long time ago and reverted to throw-everything-I-see-into-a-box mode. That means I’ll have to sort through stuff as I open up boxes in the new place, but I think that’s ok. For one thing, there’s a lot more space so I can just keep the boxes piled in one corner of the living area and deal with them bit by bit. There’s a lot I simply need to get rid of. I have no intention of being so cluttered in the new place.

Oh, I forgot to say that when I went to Home Depot I managed to get the plastic I needed to finish up my kitty poop plan. What is my kitty poop plan, you ask? (Well, maybe you didn’t ask but you’re going to get to hear about it anyway.)

I have geriatric kitties, one of which stopped using the litter box a long time ago because she has degeneration in her hips and can’t jump very well. This makes the litter box area a bit dicey to keep clean, as you can imagine. I wanted to keep things in the new place as clean as possible, so I came up with this plan. First, I had the carpets Scotchguarded. Then I’m putting down a green tarp in the master closet that I bought at Target. On top of that I’m putting plastic carpet runner that I bought at Home Depot. And then on top of that I’m putting a brand-new, very large, made perfectly for handicapped kitties, litter box. It’s actually a DOG litter box, if you can believe that, but it’s got a cut-out on one side so that it’s low to the ground, which means theoretically my geriatric poopy kitty can just walk into the box and do her business. And if she misses, there are two layers of plastic protecting the carpet and plastic is easier to clean than carpet.

So yeah. Getting this planned properly has been a large part of my week, but now it’s settled. Tomorrow after the cleaning service is done I’ll set up the new kitty poop area and we’ll see how it goes. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.
