Today was busy. I don’t think I’ve had an unbusy day in the past two weeks, to tell the truth.
I ended up taking a vacation day because my wonderful free wireless disappeared after the tornado yesterday.
I got the kitchen done, mostly, which is a good thing. The cable guy came and hooked up my cable in the living room, and I got the TV and DVD player and PS2 all set up. I brought a bunch of trash out and made a run to the closest Post Office which turned out to be a hole in the wall little place in a skanky grocery store.
They didn’t even have international stamps! This means I’ll have to drive to the good Post Office which is indeed very very good, but also at least fifteen minutes away. Ah well. My DSL modem came and after some assistance from tech support I got it to play nicely with my wireless router, so now we have broadband, woot!
The big excitement, though, was getting to call the gas company and yell at them. I got two bills in the mail today, one for the last payment on the old place, and one for the first payment on the new place. Now when I had the gas turned on at the old place four and a half years ago, they didn’t ask for a deposit. I paid every single bill on time, and the final bill said something along the lines of “You were never late! Your credit with us is STELLAR. Use this letter for a reference at your next utility!”
All well and good, but the first bill for the new place said “Your credit’s not so hot! Pay $165 as a deposit!” So I called them up to ask if the deposit could be waived, given that they obviously thought I was the shit in the paying gas bills department. A supervisor came on the line and said, in a really rude fashion, “Your credit is bad. I can give you a 20% discount on the deposit as a favor to you, take it or leave it, it’s up to you. And no you can’t talk to my supervisor.” I went ballistic on her and then I sent a really nasty email about the whole thing to the customer support email listed on the website. I told them that their policy made no sense, that they needed to add tact to their CSR training, and that I was going to tell my friends, family, acquaintances and any online forum I could find about their behavior, including the BBB. I was livid, mainly because of her attitude. So yeah. I think I’ll dig up the CEO’s email as well and write to him. I wish there was more than one gas company to choose from. I’m stuck with them. Wankers.
I’m waiting for our new bedroom set to be delivered. They said it would be between 6pm and 10pm and it’s just past 8 now. Watch them not come until 10. It’s all good, though. I’m paying them $35 to do all the assembly, so when they leave I’ll have a nice bed to sleep in with kitties.
We are really really liking the condo. This has been such a good move for us.
