Pictures!

Monday, June 30th, 2008

These are the 129-year old vases that my mother brought to me, along with an antique gold mirror that I was forced to inherit. At first I didn’t like the vases, but they seem to go ok with the mirror, so I’m content.

And here are some pictures of my Noke kitty. She’s taken a turned over black basket and a left-behind moving blanket and turned them into a kitty nest. Eventually I’ll need to put all that stuff away, but for now I’m not messing with her spot.

Middle of the week

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Today was better, attitude-wise. I got a lot of trash taken out, and managed to mail some things out, and spent a couple of hours in the lab helping out a coworker. This afternoon I managed to get the antique bookcase put together and unpacked a couple of boxes of fragile stuff. There’s still a long way to go but it’s starting to come together.

I’m hopeful that the balcony is just about ready to have the railings put up and then they’ll be done. They’ve worked on it steadily for the past two days, which is heartening.

Here’s a list of things that I need to eventually fix/replace/something:

  • master bath toilet wiggles
  • spare bath towel rack is loose on wall
  • spare bath toilet needs to be jiggled after flushing to make the reservoir fill back up
  • garbage disposal doesn’t work very well at all, to the point that I don’t use it
  • kitchen cabinets are terribly small
  • bathroom vanities are short, to the point you have to lean waaayy over to brush your teeth
  • spare room Venetian blinds don’t stay up without being tied
  • That’s really it so far, so really that’s not too bad all things considered.

And now for a picture of kitties in the sun. This is the spare room where my office is. It gets a lot of sunlight and is very warm, which I don’t like so much but the kitties adore it.

    Good day

Today was pretty good. I took another day off from work and puttered around for most part, chatting with L/L and then heading out around 1:15pm to buy my nephew’s birthday present and pick him up from his school to bring him home. I stayed over at my sister’s to have dinner and watch a movie, and got home around 11.

Tomorrow is sleeping in, and having the bedroom furniture delivered between 2 and 4 (supposedly), and maybe trying to put the gliders onto the bottoms of some of the living room furniture so that I can start unpacking things like knickknacks and CDs and DVDs. I also have to take out a ton of trash (unpacking produces lots of trash!), and make a Goodwill run, and wash some clothes. If the bedroom furniture really does arrive then I can finish unpacking my clothes and such as well. Tomorrow will be busy, hopefully, but a good busy.

The kitties seem to be much happier in the new place. The three of them have never liked each other very much (they’re all a year apart in age), and in the apartment they would fight a lot and stress me out because I’d worry. Here it seems to be better, though, maybe because there’s more room, and maybe because the litter box situation is so much better. Anyway, it’s good to see the three of them lying close to each other on the floor in a sunbeam instead of being pissy at each other. The windows in the living room are already full of nose marks. They like being able to hop onto the low sills and look out. Happy kitties are a goodness. :)

    Grrr Washington Gas

Such WANKERS. They’re making me pay a $165 deposit because of my credit record, when I’ve been paying them for the past 4.5 years without ever being late! Asshats.

In other news, I’ve gotten the Internet, landline, gas and electric setup to be transferred. I still need to call the cable company, and then that should do it for the utilities.

Lea found a wonderful litter box for puppies (of all things) that has a cutout on one side so it’s easy to step into. I just ordered one from petfooddirect.com (where I buy all their kitty food), and hopefully this will do the trick. It’s not as huge as the other one I was looking at, but it’s got the right shape. I went to Petsmart this afternoon and looked at the huge kitty litter box, but it had really high sides which means the boodle kitty won’t be able to get in. This whole search is because her hips aren’t so good anymore and she won’t hop into litter boxes.

I bought a bunch of boxes and packing materials from a storage place this afternoon. I need to bring them upstairs so I can start packing things. I remember that the last time I moved (in December 2003), I managed it by only packing for 20 minutes at a time.

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed, but it’s all good.
